June 2021 Catherine C, Northern Island Comments reasons for booking next summer I saw your house on Chez nous which we've used several times over the years and I tend to go to the owners' site if it's listed. There were many things that appealed apart from the lovely house and gardens. The fact that you provide all the linen and towels (several sites were charging for linen packs separately - with no pool towels!); that there were bikes for small jaunts; that you had looked at all the details that make a holiday house comfortable and that you were obviously thinking ahead about Covid all contributed to a feeling of generosity and hospitality that was very different from other advertisers.

August 2019 Comments made on HomeAway, Clare & Andrew Alex and Alison have a wonderful place and it is obvious how passionate they are about their business. Their Gite’s are immaculate, their garden is beautiful, their pool is clean and warm. As hosts they cannot do enough for their guests. They gave us loads of info regarding the area including canoeing and booking us a wonderful restaurant for Sunday lunch. We had such a relaxing holiday, the Gite’s are secluded and surrounded by wonderful scenery. Our kids loved the pool, hot tub, and garden ball games included . Plus Nelly the dog! September 2018 A great gite in te Dordogne A wonderful gite with a beautiful garden, covered pool and a hot tub. The gite was everything we hoped it would be - very well equipped, very clean with spacious bedrooms and a very good en suite to the main bedroom. The views from the garden, pool and hot tub areas are beautiful. The pool is a big draw and a lovely area to relax with plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Alison and Alex are great hosts and we were able to share a drink with them and chat about France and holidays. Only wished we had booked 2 weeks instead of one !

August 2018 Relaxing holiday Everything you could want in the gite and great surroundings. The pool and hot tub are well maintained and free to use anytime you want. Plenty of sun beds and parasols. We were 6 adults and enjoyed our time relaxing by the pool and in the well maintained garden. Alex and Alison are perfect hosts and have a good local knowledge. We travelled to many of the local tourist spots. It’s also a great place for family holidays. We will definitely be returning.

June 2012 Friendly, relaxed holiday 0 Beautiful surroundings, and excellent accommodation. The gite was very clean and well maintained, with everything we needed for our stay. The owners Alison & Alex gave us a very warm welcome, providing us with complimentary drinks on arrival, and entertaining us with a BBQ. The garden was beautifully kept, and the pool and hot tub were enjoyed every day well into the evening. ( the sunset is beautiful from the hot tub!). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and hope to return.

May 2018 Fijne plek, mooi uitzicht en heerlijk zwembad! De gite is van alle gemakken voorzien en heel schoon. Het verwarmde zwembad (29,5 graden toen wij er waren) maakt dat je ook als het wat minder warm buiten is kunt zwemmen. De Hottub is heerlijk om in te relaxen. Mooie omgeving, met leuke dorpjes en stadjes in de buurt. Prima fietsgebied ook. Wij zijn er nu voor de tweede maal geweest en gaan zeker nog een keer terug. Alex en Alison zijn erg gastvrij en bieden tegelijkertijd veel privacy.

May 2018 We will certainly go back 2018 The staff were very friendly and helpful. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Gite is fully equipped and very clean. The heated swimming pool (29.5 degrees when we were there) makes you swim even if it is less hot outside. The hot tub is wonderful to relax in. Nice surroundings, with nice villages and towns nearby. Excellent bike area too. We have now been there for the second time and will certainly go back again. Alex and Alison are very hospitable and offer a lot of privacy at the same time. June 2017 Excellent, well-equipped gites, friendly owners. The gites were all that we expected - if not better, so well-equipped there were even a potato ricer and an egg slicer! Alison & Alex were very friendly, without being in our faces. As for the most important member of the Wright family: Nelly was very welcoming and seemed more than happy to share her patch with us. It was so great to be able to swim every day even on the few wet, cold days and the several blisteringly hot ones. Thank you for a lovely family hoiday.

May 2017 Picture perfect We have just returned from a wonderful two week stay in the larger of the two gîtes. Blessed with some great weather we got to fully enjoy the hospitality of Alex, Alison & Nelly in the wonderfully tranquil surroundings of Cendrieux. Although everything is as described with the house, providing for all your needs, the description fails to convey how peaceful and relaxing your whole experience will be. The well appointed house, immaculate garden, temperate pool and rolling hills around make for a thoroughly enjoyable time at home. Cendrieux is also well located to explore many pretty surrounding villages and markets. For myself, my wife and two young children (5&2) this was truly ideal. Thoroughly recommended. *****

Aug 2017 Fantastic family holiday 0 Really lovely property with great pool. Cendrieux is a quiet village but is perfect for a base to explore the area. Enjoyed a nice meal at the local restaurant which is a short walk from the gite. Pool was great and partially covered which was perfect for the kids. Also surrounded by fencing and a gate that only adults could open so peace of mind. There was 10 in our party so we used both gites. Plenty of plates etc, very well stocked and very clean. Alex and Alison lovely hosts and we enjoyed a few bottles of local sparkling wine - definitely a pool day after that! Could have stayed another week. If you have kids of a young age recommend a day at the Jacquou Parc. Very good price and filled a full day for a 3 and 8 year old. Thank you to Alex and Alison & Nellie (the dog) for a lovely week.

June 2011 Fabulous location, tremendous hosts 0 Ideally located Gite. Fully equipped for modern living. The outdoor facilities are excellent and sunsets to die for! The experience for our family was really made by the hosts Alex and Alison who made us so welcome. Our week flew by and we undertook so many wonderful local activities. A holiday we won't forget for all the right reasons. Looking forward to the return visit. Thank you Alex and Alison.

Un décors, un paysage, une ambiance, un service ,des rencontres...Nous les espérions, on nous les a servi. Après ce séjour, on garde deux certitudes,celle d avoir trouve, celle de vouloir revenir. July 2017 Arrive............. and relax. We loved it! We had a great week here and would very much recommend this property for families or couples looking for a high quality, well equipped self catering gite. We found the property very well placed for exploring the Dordogne but enjoyed the rural setting and relaxing surrounds at the end of a day. The garden is safe and flat for children's play and the pool area secure. Our children aged 5 and 7 loved the outdoor toys available and also the company of the children in the adjoining gite not to mention playing with resident dog Nelly - a favourite part of the week for the children! The pool and hot tub were great and maintained to a high spec. Alex and Alison were perfect hosts during our stay and their communication before the trip and around arrival was very helpful. They have sound knowledge of the area and tourist sites (and in our case a car garage!) and were happy to pass on lots of top tips. It's obvious to see why they have many guests returning year on year as this place is a gem. Thank you!

July 2016 A wonderful gite in beautiful surroundings The gite was everything we hoped it would be - beautifully renovated and cared for, very well equipped, immaculately clean and situated in very pretty and well tended gardens. Plenty of room inside with spacious bedrooms and a lovely en suite to the main bedroom. The location is peaceful with wonderful views across the countryside which can be enjoyed from the verandah/patio, gardens, pool area and hot tub. The sunsets across the fields are beautiful. The pool area is very well looked after and a lovely space to relax. The hot tub was a real bonus and enjoyed by the family in the evenings. As the outdoor facilities are shared only with one other gite, the outside space feels very private and for most of the holiday our garden/pool times were our own. The owners were incredibly welcoming and helpful and, as they've lived in the area for many years now, it was so valuable to be able ask their advice about local shopping, activities, events and local life. The area surrounding the gite is rural. Cendrieux is a small, peaceful village and has the useful facilities of a shop, post office and bar/restaurant. We tended to travel a little further to neighbouring villages and towns, to enjoy local markets and activities and to visit the usual, well stocked large supermarkets. Le Bugue (about 15/20 mins drive) was a regular haunt where we enjoyed coffees and patisseries in the sunshine overlooking the Dordogne. Both the Dordogne and Vezere valleys, which join at the lovely village of Limeuil, are incredibly picturesque - lined by trees and, at intervals, pretty villages carved in to overhanging cliffs. Plenty of 'prehistoric' interest (caverns, troglodyte dwellings) and plenty of 'active' pursuits on offer - we had lots of fun canoeing down the Vezere and our teenage sons loved the high ropes/zip wire courses and go karting. Perigeux and Sarlat were both well worth visiting - pretty, mediaeval towns, good for shopping, with an abundance of restaurants along narrow cobbled streets. We loved the multitude of ice cream flavours on offer! We made a brief visit to a nearby lake in Vergt with beach, slide and fishing- in a lovely setting but we just ran out of time to fully enjoy everything that the local area had to offer! We would definitely recommend both the gite and the area to anyone interested in discovering a pretty and authentic area of France.

August 2015 You will struggle to find better 0 The two gites on site are maintained and "spec-ed" out to a high standard, we have only ever once found a comparable gite in 10+ years of touring France twice a year and it was way above this price point. The gites are comfortable and modern whilst retaining period features, highly equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners are exceptionally discrete and you wouldn't know they were on site unless you wish to engage with them (they live on the other side of the building out of sight). They are however incredibly welcoming; helpful; and knowledgeable, and after several years we have been made to feel like one of the family. So much so that we have introduced other regular bookers who all feel the same. The location is tranquility itself with spacious grounds and fantastic views and night skies. At the same time all the tourist sites and practical facilities are within easy driving distances. Don't be fooled into looking for big name locations like Sarlat or the like, book one of these gites; the only problem is it will spoil you for future years as everywhere else will feel second best.

May 2015 One week was not enough This is one of those places that you don't really want to share, because it's so good! But Alison and Alex who own Le Monjat, and also the nearby Red Shutters gite, deserve all the success they get because they have excelled in making this a wonderful base for a holiday in the Dordogne. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed, and by the end of the week we really felt we had known Alison and Alex all our lives! Whilst we didn't have any young children with us, the swimming pool and spacious garden would be a great attraction to them, not to mention Nelly, the lovely Dutch shepherd dog. From a positive perspective the pool has several safety features, and children would not be able to use it without adult supervision. There are bikes to borrow, which will get you into the sleepy little village of Cendrieux for your croissants and baguette, and Alex and Alison have a wealth of knowledge of the area and will make suggestions for visits if you ask them. The town of Le Bugue is nearby and a delightful village called Limeuil slightly further on, where the Dordogne meets the Vezere. We were four adults, and none of us spring chickens, and Gite 2 at Le Monjat was ideal for us. I think we would have struggled a bit in one of the attic bedrooms which form the second bedroom of Gite 1 and the third bedroom of Gite 2. However these attic bedrooms would be ideal for families with children. As we were only staying for a week we spent the first few days rushing around sightseeing, but then soon realized the value of chilling out around the pool and in the Jacuzzi. A week is not long enough - we hope to come back soon. I would certainly recommend this property to other people.

April 2014 Glorious, gorgeous Gite We've just returned from 10 days and can't recommend our hosts and the gite enough. The area is breathtakingly gorgeous and there are so many things to do within the surrounding areas, the gite has everything you can think of and we had no complaints whatsoever which is surprisingly rare for us! The boys loved it, from the heated pool which we were lucky enough to swim in, even in April, to the hot tub, to the trap door in the upstairs room to the barbeques and the adorable Nellie the dog. We hope to return.... We personally enjoyed delicious lunch and dinner at Limeuil, lunch in pretty Saint Cyprien, the market at Le Bugue, the castle at Castlenaud, canoeing from Les Eyzies, exploring medieval Sarlat and being awe inspired by pre-historic art at Lascaux 2.

July 2014 Amazing Gite, fantastic hosts An amazing well maintained gite, exceptionally clean and kitted out with everything you could possibly need (including a separate drinks fridge). Alex and Alison were wonderful hosts and their kind hospitality made our holiday that much more special. The gite is ideally situated with beautiful surroundings. There is so much to do and see, we partically enjoyed visiting Sarlat, Le Bugue and Perigueux. The children loved the pool and hot tub and especially enjoyed being able to use them very late at night. Our week stay flew by and we are now suffering with the post holiday blues. We couldn't recommend this gite highly enough and will definitely be returning soon.
